Babylonstoren is situated between Franschhoek and Paarl in the Cape Winelands, surrounded by the dramatic Simonsberg and Franschhoek Mountains. Established in 1692, it is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms with the Manor House dating back to 1777. Today, it is a stylish farm hotel, vineyard and garden with sweeping views over the Drakenstein valley.

ROOMS & SUITES

There are 5 rooms in the Manor House, which is booked on an exclusive use basis and is ideal for groups or families travelling together. The nine Farmhouse Suites are a combination of authentic Cape Dutch architecture and a contemporary design incorporating four-poster beds and cast iron stoves in each room. The elegant Cottages are scattered around the gardens in amongst the Fynbos, and consist of One-Bedroom Suites, One-Bedroom Cottages and Two-Bedroom Cottages.

FOOD & DRINK

The food and drink at Babylonstoren is something to marvel at. Housed in the old cow shed, the signature Babel Restaurant offers simple but wholesome food, and places it’s focus on a farm-to-fork philosophy. The menu always reflects the season, is guided by what is available in the garden and considers their “pick, clean and serve” approach. The all-glass Greenhouse is tucked under the oak trees and offers both a refreshing meal and experience. Also based on Babylonstoren’s farm-to-fork philosophy, the food is seasonal and garden-fresh. Served in picnic crates, they offer light snacks, salads, artisanal freshly baked breads, afternoon tea and fresh juices. By day, the Bakery supplies the hotel, farm shop and restaurants with baked bread, and in the evening operates as a hearty restaurant. As a working Vineyard, Babylonstoren also offer their own selection of wines including white, rose, red and an MCC.

LEISURE & ACTIVITIES

As well as having stunning accommodation and a selection of restaurants, Babylonstoren is a hive of activity. Included in your stay, you can enjoy garden tours, swimming, fishing, rowing at the dam, bread baking, cellar tours and tastings, explore the 200 hectare farm by bicycle, as well as workshops and full access to the garden at all times. The Garden Spa allows guests to unwind with a selection of treatments, use of the sauna, steam room, indoor heated vitality pool, tropical rain shower and salt room.

OUR OPINION

Babylonstoren is in an excellent location, is very classy, with great food and is a fun (& sometimes busy!) organic option.
