DAY 1
KATAVI NATIONAL PARK
Depart Arusha airport this morning on a 3.5 hour flight to Western Tanzania – this includes pick-ups / drop-offs & a short fuel stop. On arrival at Katavi National Park you'll be met by a guide who will drive you to Katuma Bush Lodge for your 4 night stay, with great game-viewing and a picnic lunch en route.
DAYS 2-4
EXPLORE KATAVI
Drive out into wildest Katavi, potentially witnessing herds of buffalo, elephants, other plains game and big cats. Follow the river to see the pods of hippos who congregate in the pools and mudholes, plus plenty of crocodiles. You will also get the opportunity for a walk, exploring the edge of the plains on foot.
Katavi National Park is a remote safari location but the effort taken to reach Tanzania's third largest Park will be repaid many times over. Created in 1974, Katavi is a truly special place where you can feel like you have travelled back in time thousands of years. The remote location is less frequently visited than other parks in East Africa, which has left Katavi almost unchanged.

DAY 5
TRAVEL TO LAKE TANGANYIKA
Depart camp for a short (one hour) flight to Mahale. On landing, board the dhow which will take you down the lake - with lunch on the way - to Kungwe Beach Lodge (approx. 1.5 hour boat ride). On arrival at the lodge the team will orientate you around the camp, and explain about the chimpanzee trekking. The afternoon is at leisure to either go fishing, enjoy a short forest walk, or relax on the beach.
Lake Tanganyika is a true marvel of the world. The world's longest, second largest and second deepest freshwater lake. This mammoth body of water spans four countries - Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Zambia with Tanzania possessing 46% along it's north west border.

DAY 6-7
CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN MAHALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
You'll have the chance to go trekking and looking for the chimps, with a morning departure from camp. Head up into the forest in search of man's closest relatives. Afternoons can be spent fishing, on dhow trips on the lake, or relaxing in camp.
Mahale Mountain National Park sits at the centre of the eastern shore of Tanganyika, and is home to one of the last populations of wild chimpanzees in Africa. These chimps were habituated to visitors by a Japanese research project in the 1960s. The dry season provides the best time of year to witness the chimps in large groups, but the park is accessible all year round.
DAY 8
BACK TO ARUSHA
Departure by dhow in time for your lunch-time flight back to Arusha, arriving late afternoon.
