LAKE KARIBA HOLIDAYS
Stretching along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Lake Kariba is the one of the world's largest artificial lakes with a shoreline of over 2,000 kilometres. The sheer size of the lake makes it easy to forget that it's a dam.
Before Lake Kariba was filled, the existing vegetation was burned, creating a thick layer of fertile soil on land that would become the lake bed. As a result the ecology of Lake Kariba is vibrant. People flock here for the fishing, game viewing and bird watching, with animal inhabitants including Nile crocodile and hippo. The lakes proximity to Matusadona National Park ensures that there are plenty of wildlife to see, including the Big Five.
It has been said that Lake Kariba is Zimbabwe's Riviera. The time is best spent admiring the stunning views, watching the sunset from the deck of a houseboat here is a special experience.
